George Nelson’s work with Herman Miller in the 1940s and ’50s has surely withstood the test of time, as it goes without saying that the Nelson Platform Bench is an iconic design in the pantheon of mid-century modern furniture. Serving as one of Herman Miller’s most exemplary examples of interior modernism, another Nelson bench, the Cane Bench, was a relatively overlooked rendition that was released a couple of years after its much-ballyhooed cousin and never necessarily got its fair share of the limelight — until now, that is.
Upon a visit to the archives, Herman Miller has revived Nelson’s gorgeous brainchild in a trio of sizes, those being a 48″, 60″, or 72″ choice. While these solely make a difference from a length perspective, each table stands 14″ high and 18″ wide. Composed of incredible materials, it all starts with a wooden-framed, textured cane. Then, tailored to your liking, the sleek bench comes available in a pair of immaculate border finishes of either maple or walnut.
The final customization option includes the table’s legs, which are crafted of thin metal and are available in the buyer’s choice of finish in either a glistening chrome or a subdued black. While the design dates back to 1952, it is undoubtedly a timeless piece of furniture that will provide some added modernist class to any home.
If you’re looking to round out your living room with one of these interior design relics, they are available on Herman Miller’s online store starting from $1,595 for the 48″ option with a maple border.
